No appetite 2+ weeks post-op

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved on 3/15 and was cleared today to move to pureed foods. The problem is that I have absolutely no desire to eat. (I've never typed that sentence in my life

I was all ready to make my ricotta bake and eat some Beans but when I actually went to eat something, I gave up after a bite. I wasn't nauseous, I just didn't want to eat. Anyone else have the same experience?

I've been drinking my Water and Protein Shakes fine since surgery, but that's all I've consumed. Is it bad to wait until I actually want to eat or should I force myself to try and get back into solid (pureed) food?

I was sleeved on 3/23 and so I'm about 1 wk out, my surgeon requires 3 WEEKS of liquid post-op which I thought was crazy talk BUT being in the throws of it, I don't hv much of an appetite to do as much cheating as I thought I wanted to do, lol...I say that to say as long as you're keeping up on your Proteins and liquid there should be no harm in staying on liquids as some Dr keep their patients there anyway.

I was told if you aren't hungry it is not horrible at the beginning if you don't eat but make sure you are getting all your liquids. My nutritionist recommended Isopure low carb beverages so you get Protein from your liquid, in addition, to your Protein Shakes if eating is a problem.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
