Working out after Weight Loss Surgery

Recommended Posts

I guess part of it is whether you were adding activity prior to surgery. I started working out in the three months before my surgery. So about 2 weeks after surgery I was back in the gym doing cardio and light weights. Like @twothegrynd said - listen to your body and start with walking or if you have access to a pool - Water walking or swimming.

I have bad knees, so I found that starting with a recumbent bike was helpful. I would make that the only time I could catch up on shows on Netflix - so I pedaled my way through the first two seasons of Breaking Bad.

Make sure you have water with you and sip, sip, sip while you are working out. If you have been having issues with getting all your fluids in, consider sipping on Powerade Zero or G2 when you are working out.

For what its worth, I'm 7 months out. I'm going to be running at 5k in 15 days. (It's for charity and I still hate running, but the rest of the family is doing it.) However, I enjoy other cardio now and do like going to the gym and working with my trainer. I recommend that you find someone to help you set up a routine that works for you and meet with them periodically to evaluate where you are. It is a worthwhile investment in yourself.

My doctor said walking only until your 2-3 week follow up appointment. After the appointment, I was cleared for cardio. At six weeks I was cleared for everything including weight lifting, core exercises, etc. I personally went back to Bootcamp at 6 weeks. Started slow but after about three weeks I started to kick some serious ass again. :) Now that I've lost 30+ lbs in a lot of ways it's easier than it was before - but still really really hard. :) Get it girl!

Started walking as soon as got home very slowly at first. Eventually working up to 45 mins. After 4 months then switched to mini trampoline working up to 30 mins 3 - 5 days a week. Added in light weights 2x a week. Have stayed on this program for over a year.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
