Anyone lost 1/2 the weight and then can't loose more?

I know this is a typo, since your heaviest weight was 240. I don't know how tall you are, but assuming a normal BMI for you is at 150lbs, then you could expect to lose 58 pounds, and you have lost 55lbs.. just about exactly as expected! Congrats!!

My doctor has me on track to get to 178lbs. This is my goal weight with them, but isn't my healthy bmi goal weight. I do need to emphasize that although folks may believe their set point has arrived, it does not mean that it is indeed it or has to stay there. The sleeve does about 60-65% of the work for you really (provided you stick with your plans)...the other 35-40% we have to do on our own. This is why we adopt better lifestyles in diet and exercise during the first year so we can continue it all and make the goals we want to achieve. You will have to fight the "set point" that you believe you're in. You will have to change up your routines, in diet and exercise. You all can do this....keep your chins up!

And congrats on all of your successes. I hope to hear this when I've made my 60-65% as well. :)

Yeah, it's sobering for me to think that my 65% puts me at 210lbs. That's only 7 away, and still 20 pounds into the obese category. Not a cool thought at all! Gonna have to buckle down and work this thing!

yeah, im working it now, even though the numbers really don't matter to me, there is a certain amount of excitement that I'm looking forward to being the weight I was in my 20's and not having that obese label anymore. That, I'm looking forward to.

You're going to don't too hon. I have tons of faith you will. 😁

berry - you are so positive! It's infectious! Thanks :) I'm actually 5'4" so my goal (according to my surgeon) is 130- so 55 lbs is actually only 50% of my total I needed to lose - (240 to 130)- 50% is awesome- I'm so grateful- but I need to get down further to be in a healthy range

I started my weight at 229 and dropped down to 194 in the first 7 months and im 1 year and months in and im back up to 210. This is so frustrating and im even more embarrassed that i had the surgery and haven't lost much. I even hired a trainer and paid him about $800 for 4 months and still didn't lose anything. What's wrong with me..im so stressed and emotional over another failed attempt to lose weight and be healthy. I need motivational advise....hopefully im not along

I had my gastric sleeve surgery on 8/7/17. My starting weight was 225. I lost 20 pounds in the first four weeks, and five in the following two and a half weeks.

I know I need to change it up. I'm consistently eating under 800 calories a day, but I haven't started exercising (it's tricky because I have chronic fatigue), and I get most of my calories late in the day, right up until bedtime.

The thing is, that 25 pound loss moved me from practically disabled to relatively normal. Even if I never lost another pound, I feel so much better and I'm so glad that I had the surgery. That 25 pounds has made a huge difference in my life and mobility and health. I'll be disappointed if I don't lose more, but I can live with this.

I'm not sure why your surgeon chose 130 as your goal. At 145 you would be into a "normal BMI", and the top part of that range is where we usually calculate from. So, if we were to use 145, then losing 55 pounds is 60% of your excess weight, which is still within the "average range".. which is 60% to 73%.

It, hopefully, is nice to know that you ARE within an average range.. but don't forget, the surgery might only do the 60-73%, but if you don't like what you see in the mirror, it's all up to you! (It's just too bad the set point thing is so powerful, otherwise it wouldn't be a trouble at all!).

Losing 55lbs is truly amazing, and that's part of what I want you to sit and think about.. how wonderful it is that you've come so far! The glass is half full/empty thing can really affect our PERCEPTIONS of our journeys... and that's just as important as any numbers on a scale.

I am 38 had my surgery 4 years ago. Before surgery I lost 63 lbs, after 45, and now I'm stuck. I cannot lose for the life of me I was running a 5k 4x a week last summer and lost nothing. I am now diabetic after keeping my numbers below for 9 years. I am at a loss. I am in the middle of preparing to cut all white food, sugar and possibly go vegetarian. I am kinda sad I have to go to that extreme. I am tracking my food, carbs and sugar. I don't know what else to do...

Sounds like you have a plan! When it comes to white sugar and flour, I actually don't think those foods, themselves, are the problem. (Wheat isn't the same grain it used to be, so I'm not really sure what to think if that.. could be a problem).

But, big picture, by avoiding those two foods, you're avoiding all the high calorie, chemical laden, processed food-junk in the store. I guess we should add corn and potato chips to the pile as well. (I can see it now... "corn chips don't have sugar or white flour, so they're ok!" Lol)

To start, I find it easiest to eat the same things each day, so I only have to create a menu once and I'll know that I'm hitting all my Protein, carb, fat, and calorie goals.

Once that menu is second nature, then it can be tweaked if you want.

It's very frustrating to be stuck and not loose weight. The Whole 30 plan is really good. There is a lot of support for the plan and you only do it for 30 days then see how you feel. Sugar is in everything and one of the worst things we can eat as are the bad carbs. There are so many good books out there on why Protein is better for you from the original Atkins to , Eat Fat Get Thin, The Keto Reset Diet, Zero Sugar Diet then there is the Paleo diet and the combined Paleo keto. Other books Fat Chance, The Case Against Sugar, Why we get fat, Grain Brain and so many more tell us why sugar, white products and bad carbs effect our health. If reading and researching made me loose weight I'd be thin for the rest of my life. LOL I guess it's a trial and error for each person. I'm still stuck but I do know I feel better when I don't eat sugar. I wish there was an answer to getting past the stuck phase. Good Luck and I hope you get your sugar levels under control.

Check out the obesity code or intermittent fasting. I do the 8/16 and it helps. Not easy, but another tool. Also my nut had me cut out the fruit that was slowly snaking back into my diet. And focusing on Water more. 5 lbs in 5 days. I know it is fast at first then slows down, but these are some more tools. Good luck to you.

Thanks for the info. The Keto Reset Diet has intermittent fasting in it . Like anything it's sticking to it which is my problem.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
