Is there a don't eat this List?? Somewhere?

Recommended Posts

I was wondering is there any food that you are just not supposed to eat because it would hurt you or your band? Or is it just what works for you you can eat. With the exception of the food that has too much fat or calories. I have read alot and can't really find a never try this list.

Thanks,Randa

No, because there are no foods that universally (among bandsters) can't be eaten. In addition, every surgeon has their own version of a "foods to avoid" list. E.g. my surgeon says eat anything you can tolerate, but don't drink carbonated beverages. Another surgeon in town says don't red meat unless it's slow cooked, carbonated beverages are fine.

It's truly individual. Each person finds things they can, or cannot tolerate.

Personally I've not yet found a food that I can't eat. Some go slower than others, but I can still eat them without problems.

Thank you, I just kept reading different things and really didn't want to do any thing wrong. I was Banded June 5,2007 and have done well with a 55 Lb loss I had a fill on wed and they had me so tight I could not drink fluids at all. I got a unfill yesterday and think I may live. But I lost 5 lbs in 6 days. Now I think I am just right and want to try to do eveything correctly as much as possible. Thanks again. Randa

I'm so confused as to what I should be experiencing. I was banded 8/13, first fill was 9/19, as my surgeon filled the band he had me drink Water until it wouldn't go down, then he slowly took out saline as I drank until I could get the water down. He said it was .1cc which compared to everyone else is nothing. When I first take a bite of something now matter how much is chew it when it goes down it's painful, after about 10 minutes I can take another bite, once I'm at the 4th or 5th bite it no longer hurts. I thought that it might be my band stretching out, but the very next meal is the same thing, pain at first then clear sailing. Is the object of the band to totally make eating and unpleasant experience, so you choose not eating over the pain? And does the hunger pains ever go away?

Answers below in blue.

When I first take a bite of something now matter how much is chew it when it goes down it's painful, after about 10 minutes I can take another bite, once I'm at the 4th or 5th bite it no longer hurts. Sounds fairly common. Search for "first bite syndrome" here, there have been many threads on it. I thought that it might be my band stretching out The band can't stretch, it is what it is. No worries there. , but the very next meal is the same thing, pain at first then clear sailing. Is the object of the band to totally make eating and unpleasant experience, so you choose not eating over the pain? The objective of the band is to make you feel fuller, faster. Sometimes eating hurts people. Sometimes eating at certain times hurts, but is easier at other times. Sometimes people eat and feel nothing other than being full. And does the hunger pains ever go away? Well, they did for me. You're newly banded. Your body will adjust to the smaller meals.

I haven't weighed in a week or two, but I'm probably 150 - 160 lbs down.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
