Hi Ginka and Sades

Couldn't help reading your posts and just wanted to add my bit. I was banded just over 6 weeks ago and can relate to some of the feelings you have gone through and just wanted to say you both need to relax and take time out for yourself.

Re liquids I didn't worry too much about how much i was drinking just stuck to the saying "should be able to drink through a straw". Found oxo cubes in hot Water great for savoury cravings, prune juice helped the bowels. I would often make a cuppa and only have three four sips and that was it. I progressed over the first week to Soups (pumpkin Tomato non bitty soups) By end of the first week I started into custards .

I think I found the mushies the harder stage as really wanted to chew things. Heaven was a shepherds pie I cooked for the family and mushed up .

The main thing you need to do is take time for yourself ( I know this can be hard with young kids ) but if you need a nap take it. My husband would often come home midday and find me asleep on the sofa. I would highly recommend getting up and walking around just a little and changes of scenery do help.

In all just remember your body has gone through major surgery give it time to heal. It will tell you what it wants and welcome to a new start in life.

Take care and thoughts are with you

Jane

Thanks Jane. :Banane20: I'm feeling much better than I was and my emotions are doing fine as well... no doubt they will play up at different stages of this. I think I really only cried at the hospital because I was feeling sorry for myself. Probably got a small pain threshold and couldn't handle it. The other thing for me was the fear that I won't ever be able to eat anything I like again (even though I know that's not true)... just fear going a little crazy! :) This is a great forum for us to put all these thoughts out there and get some reassurance. Thanks again.

The crying and emotions are all due to the anaesthetic - apparently very common. Just take it easy, relax and drink those fluids.

HI Nikki,

I'm also from Sydney and considering seeing Dr B. How long was it between your first appointment and your DOB? Did you have to be on Optifast for 2 weeks pre-op and what has your post op been like? I'm also looking at Dr Durmush, as he is closer to home than Dr B.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
