All of the sudden im starving

Recommended Posts

Im 7 weeks post op and the last couple of days i feel like im so hungry. I get all of my Protein in (3 meals and a shake sometimes a string cheese or cucmbers in between ) and also i drink 70oz+ of fluids. I feel the more i drink the hungrier i feel. Literally my stomach is growling constantly and my stomch feels so empty even with fluids. I try to keep my mind off of it keeping busy with my toddler and working full time but litterally i feel like im starving myself even if i ate 1.5hrs ago. Anyone in the same boat?🤔

I deal a lot with head hunger. Lets face it I have had 40+ years of bad habits due to overeating, and I cannot wish it away, I have had to face my demons and know I am eating what is adequate to lose weight and stay healthy, so I just yell at myself ' I can wait till my meal time.' I keep mints on hand If I must put something in my mouth. So much of this is a culmination of bad habits, and surgery is a life saving procedure, but we still have to do the real work that we ignored most of our lives. You can do this!!!! you have shown you are willing to sacrifice to be healthy so keep your head up and your mouth shut. lol, just kidding.

I had my surgery a week ago today. And when I tell you I am hungry ALL THE TIME. I mean stomach growling and just hungry. I hope tomorrow my doctor tells me I can switch to soft foods tomorrow. I'm so hungry.

You shouldn't be this early. Does your doctor have you on an acid-reducer? That growling is most likely acid.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
