I really didn't want to do this since i mostly lurk and rarely ask. But i'm quite frustrated and just wondering if this is normal or not.

So i know everyone talks about the 3 week stall, and that it's pretty famous around here. I experienced mine at 4-5 weeks. But is there such a thing as a 3 months stall? I've just experienced my second stall right now and have actually gained about 1-3 pounds. March 15th i weighed in at 244-245. As of march 22nd i've been at 245, then 246 on sunday, then today 247. Sometimes the scale will go back to 245 but it just jumped up again yesterday and today. So I guess my question is, is this normal? Will it pass? Or do i need to be concerned that this is it? I'm worried and upset because i have hypothyroidism and pre-surgery losing weight was nearly impossible for me. So my biggest fear is that i will end up stalling forever. I know stalls are normal, and i know i should be patient, but i am just scared that i'm still somehow sabotaging myself or that it's my fault this happened.

The only things i've done differently the past 1 month is try to eat 1 oz of banana a day. *surgeon's recommendation* with 1 TBS Peanut Butter. And i've started doing a lot more walking and have been burning off about 200-350 calories a day.
These are my for proper info.

Sleeved December 7th, 2016

Pre-op diet weight, 12/4/16 - 315

Day of surgery weight - 300.4

January 17th meeting with surgeon weight - 273

February 28th meeting with surgeon weight - 259

Current weight - 248

Foods: String cheese, laughing cow cheese, cottage cheese, chicken, tuna, salmon, ground beef, turkey Jerky, cottage cheese, and a Premier Protein shake. No pudding, no Jello, no crystal light, etc.
Drinks: Water 40-50 oz a day. (surgeon requirement is min of 30 oz)


food is tracked through Myfitnesspal, and typical day consists of about 500-700 calories. Protein grams are about 46-70 a day. Carbs are anywhere from 13-23, and fat is 30-45. On a good day is when i meet the higher calorie/protein goals. On a bad day it's on the low end.

I've been stuck for a bit as well and it's actually helped me by upping my calories a bit. I was averaging 600-700 a day and bumped it up to 800-900. It wouldn't hurt to get your Water up a bit more as well (shoot for 64 oz or more). Even on your high side if you're taking in 700 and burning off upwards of 300 calories you're really low on your caloric intake. Personally I think you're at a good place with your carbs & Protein. I know it can difficult to accept that getting more calories in can actually help lose weight but it does.

It wouldn't hurt to get your Water up a bit more as well (shoot for 64 oz or more). Even on your high side if you're taking in 700 and burning off upwards of 300 calories you're really low on your caloric intake. Personally I think you're at a good place with your carbs & Protein. I know it can difficult to accept that getting more calories in can actually help lose weight but it does.

Hello,

I am over 4 months post op. I have stalled a few times. The last time I really stalled was around 12 weeks post op.

At that time, I saw my nutritionist and she said that I needed to get my calories up over 650 a day, and that if I didn't, it would be difficult for me to lose weight. I also increased my Protein to 100 grams a day and I keep my carbs around 25-40 grams a day. Ever since I started doing those things, the weight has been steadily coming off and I haven't hit any more stalls. Now at 4 and a half months, I am eating between 775-900 calories a day. Just in the past two weeks I've dropped 10 pounds.

@orionburn I'm trying my hardest to get in more Water. I tend to have more bad days then good days and it's usually painful even drinking water. You are correct in regards to the low calories. I wasn't trying to cut my calorie intake that low but it unfortunately happened. Thanks for your input!

@mylighthouse Thank you for telling me that! The last time i saw my surgeon he told me to eat between 600-800 calories a day. Protein goal of 60-80 grams a day, so i've actually been trying to follow his advice and do just that. I think you are right in regards to the calorie increase and i will try to up them a bit more.

@Navigating the WildernessOn a given day i usually average anywhere from 1100-1600mg sodium.

      Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
      What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
