I am scheduled to have my sleeve surgery 18 April. In three weeks from today. I have been reading blogs and talking with local sleevers that say not to expect to loose any more just about 60% or your starting weight. That it is nearly impossible to loose more. If this is the case then it seems impossible to reach a goal weight if it is more than 60%? I am suppose to loose 110 pounds to be with in a 5 pound range of the weight my surgeon wants obtained.

Can anyone share their weight loss story that has met or nearly met the goal weight

I am six months post-op today, and I have lost 85% of my excess weight so far (184 pounds). And I have no reason to believe I won't lose the rest (33 pounds). It is all about devotion to proper food intake and exercise.

I think the 60% is like the general minimum. But like the above poster said, it's your devotion to proper food and exercise that determines what you will do.

This journey is like many other in that you get out what you put into it. I am almost 2 years out and I lost over 150 pounds. Some may disagree with me but if you sit on the couch and only do the minimum work that needs to be done you get the minimum results. If you want to lose more than average you have to do things better than average. This is your journey make the best of it you possibly can.

I'm almost 3 months post op and have lost 80% of my excess weight. Almost there! I'm actually concerned that it won't stop.

I'm only a week post-op so no personal experience yet, but my surgeon says that the 60% is an average. He says the program I'm going through has more like 85% on the LOW side! He has a large percentage of patients that lose 95-100% of their excess weight. Some bounce back up 10-15lbs while they're trying to figure out maintenance, but most keep it off as long as they keep with the program. I can only hope I'm in that large percentage that loses it all : )

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
