Do you guys feel the same amount of hunger as you did before you were banded? Do you still WANT to eat a whole lot but the band stops you?

I have friends that have gastric and thier hunger is non-existent. But I can't get over the rearranging of your insides.

I'm currently unfilled, so yes, I do get hungry. But it's not the "eat paint off the wall" preband hunger. Also, I've been eating too much junky-junk over the holidays and that just doesn't "stick" with me and help me feel satisfied as long as the hard Proteins (lean, moist meats) and vegs. I honestly feel better when I'm eating the right things. Eating these carbs makes me feel yucky and tired. There really is a lot of variety of good stuff. I love grilled shrimp and grilled pork chops.

I get hungry, but only if I haven't eaten for a long while. And my hunger is satisfied with very little food. Do I still want to eat anyway? Sure, but that's a whole different subject.

I get hungry too. But alot of times its more like food cravings and wanting to continue eating even when I should be finished (just like Nancy said).

Of course we get hungry--we're human, and all our wiring is fully intact, so when we're low on fuel our bodies send the "hunger" signal we need to stay alive.

But hunger is a whole different animal post-band. I now know what it's like to be hungry in the same way that normal people get hungry--like when they haven't eaten in four or more hours, and truly want something nutritious to fill the small space inside their stomachs. Now when I get hungry I can eat only a small amount--a half a sandwich, one small piece of chicken--and the hunger really and truly goes away.

No longer does it take two or three sandwiches or a plate FULL of dinner to make the pangs go away. THAT'S the miracle of the band.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
