I caught a few minutes of one episode. Patient was over a year out and had already lost like 200lbs, but needed to lose another 50 before getting some skin removed. Doc thought she could do it in 2 months, and everyone was disappointed when she "only" lost 8 in that time. It showed some of what she was eating, and it looked fine to me!

Unrealistic expectations...

I watched this one last night and I thought, so what...she lost. It's not a race. She was on track the majority of the time, is anyone 100% perfect? I sure hope not.

I only started watching it recently but it does help me. If I find myself making the same excuses as the folks on the show I stop myself. The part that keeps me motivated is whenever I see those skin removal segments. Yikes! I have a small bit of "apron" left over from 2 pregnancy's and will have that removed once I reach my goal but having huge loads of skin removed is something I never want to deal with so yes I use the show as a cautionary tale of how bad it can get.

One of my favorite Dr. Noz-isms was when one of his bigger, bed-ridden patients said .. "but I'm starving!" and Dr. Noz replied "You're not starving you have over 800 lbs of fat!" (that was a paraphrase) Yes it was a childish response BUT sometimes its like he is dealing with impulsive children who don't get it! How could you not get it! When they don't lose anything or even gain a few and they have this look like, what did I do? It's almost comical. My other favorite response is when they have gained and say .. Dr Noz isn't going to be happy with me... He isn't their parent! I just wish one of them would say .. Doc I have been cheating all month, I am so mad at myself!
WLS isn't a magic pill .. its all up to you!

I don't know how Dr Now deals with these folks

You know when I first started watching the show Dr.Now was kinda soft spoken and passive (as far as working with his clients) Now I love him .... his whole attitude had changed, he speaks his mind and there is no bull! Obviously "will power" is not something most of us (in the fluffy world) have so I need that extra no frills stern attitude! Way to go Dr. NOW!!

Well see patients that size have less than a 5% chance of being successful and you have to stay on them to hold them accountable. Plus at their weight it's easy to lose that much weight, obviously for people that only need to lose 100 pounds that wouldn't be realistic. If you notice when she came back the next time she lost the weight she needed to which meant the only reason she wasn't losing was because of what she was eating. Plus she really needed that skin surgery and he couldn't do it until she lost the weight. But I have watched several seasons and some of them never make goal weight or they start gaining again. I wish my doc was more like Dr Now.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
