nocturnalgemi wow that seems super fast. Did you have RNY? How did you feel the first day? Was pain really bad and did you expirence nausea?

Yes, I had RNY. I felt pretty good the first day. The pain is probably 3 out of 10, 4 out of 10 tops. The absolute worst part so far was when the nurse removed the drain. I screamed and cried during that part. Otherwise, I still feel pretty good! I haven't experienced any nausea yet! I stay on top of my pain meds and walk, walk, walk. It helps a lot with the gas. So far, no regrets!

I agree seems too soon to go home. Did you have to take the ounces test? I have to pass that text keeping X amount of ounces down, without problems before I can even think of leaving.

The day of surgery, I was told to drink one of those little plastic medicine cups each hour, then bump up to two of those cups later that night. I haven't had any difficulty with maintaining fluids and keeping everything down so far has been a breeze. I guess because I was doing so well (no nausea, walking the hospital floor a lot, no complications) they gave me the green light to go home the next morning. It's typical at my hospital to release patients the next day if there are no complications.

@nocturnalgemi omg that's awesome I pray the good lord shows me favor and my pain is low like yours has been. Your sailing right on through no issues keeping foods down getting in your liquids. That's awesome.

I hope you have very little pain too! I was very worried about the pain because I have such a low tolerance for it. But yeah...so far, so good! [emoji38] I'm 5 days out, still no nausea. I can actually gulp instead of sip liquids now without consequence. Well, bigger sips, I should say lol. A really good sign, though, is I can go longer now in between taking my pain meds. So instead of every 4 hours, I'm up to 6-7 hours and with 1/3 of the bottle left. The gas hasn't been too bad either. To be honest, the absolute worst part of this experience was when the nurse removed the drain. I wouldn't wish that kind of pain on anyone!

You sound optimistic and ready to take the world on! The gas will pass and when it does it's amazing ! I'm 6 days out and finally feel good! At the mall shopping now!

Had bypass surgery on Monday. Trying to drink 64 ozs of fluids/day. Have sharp pains on my side. Not real bad, just like getting a stitch in your side. Only lasts a couple seconds. Am I sipping too much at one time?

I know that feeling. I don't think fluids can do that. It may just be gas -- try Gas-X? If it persists and you're super concerned call the surgeon's nurse.

Good morning!!! Well my three month wait, finally paid off. I had surgery yesterday. My experience thus far has been pretty good. I slept most of yesterday, so Im wide awake since 3am pst. I have 7 incision sites. I cant feel much pain in any of them but one. The big one is about 3 inch incision right next to my ribcage, it's rather tender, hurts to sit up and walk. My nurse ordered me a binder to support my belly better while walking. No appetite as of yet. Ive walk twice, once a couple hours after surgery and the other last night. Last night I doubled the distance and felt the gas moving after. Only minor burps, no passing gas yet. I cant wait for the relief though. My mouth is so super dry: my tongues sticking to the roof of my mouth. Im using sponge sticks with Water to get my mouth wet. Ill be in the hospital until Thursday. My surgical team was great! My Surgeon is simply the best. Im so happy.
Sorry for typos Im on heavy meds and groggy, but couldn't wait to post my first time!!

Hey, We're surgery buddies... I had RNY on 3/27/17, too. I came home 3/28 and each day has been better and better. I have my post op on Wednesday of this next week and looking forward to 1) getting these staples out and 2) expanding my post-op menu. LOL

Hope you are doing well!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
