Celebrating a big thing without food

Recommended Posts

If my surgery will go as planned, it will be on june 13th. But 15.july my partner and I will have a 10year anniversary. Usually that would have meant, fancy dinner and drinks and something. Now I would only be 5 weeks out and I am totally clueless about how to Celebrate when dinner and drinks is out of the picture, especially romantically. Any ideas?

Congratulations on 10 years! My surgery is June 14th so we are real close. How about a romantic carriage ride in the park? Gondolea? I am not sure where you live. Comedy show? (not as romantic) Concert in the park? Go see a play? Couples massage? I am not sure if that was helpful but just somethings I , myself might consider if I were in your position.

The thing is we would prefer to go out, get a little time away together because at home we have 3 kids. :) Would not be a whole lot of romantic to stay at home and cook. but I was thinking we could go to one of his favorite restourant and I could just have a Soup or speak to the owner (know him a little) if I could eat my own food. Because he will order a double plate of his favorite dish I am sure, so it's not like they will miss out on the income hehe.

Or u could just eat off his plate -- it's kind of a waste to order ur own -- and not too classy to bring ur own -- just have them dish up ur food on a saucer

Good idea, since he orders double anyway, I could just say it's mine and let him finish it ;)

My partner is not Icelandic, he is portuguese so for him whalewatching might be a cool thing :P Or maybe go to the Blue lagoon, its like 10-15 minutes from our house. And that deffinatly is romantic, and he has never been there but has always wanted to go.

What about trying something new together - a tango lesson? Go to see a performance of something you both like - live music, theater, etc. You get your time together and get to do something fun. Or a restaurant that specializes in small plates or tapas. My husband and I do that regularly now since I can't eat like I used to.

At 5 weeks, you should be able to have most foods, but in small quantities. You can always order an appetizer as your main course if you go to dinner. I was about 5 weeks out when my mom passed away and we had to do the big Italian funeral -days and days of lots of food. No one really noticed that I wasn't eating and I stayed on plan as best I could.

Life happens. Enjoy and Congrats!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
