It's getting Real!

Recommended Posts

May 1st is my surgery date. This all happened very quickly for me. I started researching the sleeve about 3 months ago and now its a reality. I finally got my husband on board and the time off from work so I paid my deposit today. Even though I have researched endlessly and done a tone of planning as soon as I hit send on the deposit I got extremely nervous. Its a good thing I don't have too long to wait because my nerves couldn't handle it!

I'm also may 1st but I'm bypass. I know exactly how you feel, except it has taken me a year with all of my insurance requirements. They called me last Friday and I almost panicked... Like, wait a minute, what did I get myself into! LOL. I even said that to the lady calling to schedule me. I know we are not getting the same surgery, but we can totally be surgery buddies! I haven't found anyone with my date yet : )

Hello all! My RNY is end of May. The 30th. So still a ways for me it seems. I am from Canada so the process seems slower. I was referred in March and have did all my appointments June to December. Now just a pre-op and then Surgery! I am trying to keep myself busy by getting some thing done so I can relax and focus on my recovery. I am hoping to be off work fro the month of June, however I am not sure yet.

I wish I could take a month off! Unfortunately I have to go back as soon as I feel well enough.

So exciting!!! It okay to be nervous, that means you understand how big of a commitment this is! You're going to do just fine! It was the best decision I've ever made. Changed my life in many ways!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
