Just Went Shopping

Recommended Posts

I just went to the grocery to buy everything for the liver shrinking diet, which I start Monday the 3rd.

It just got real and I'm scared

I've never had surgery. I'm not afraid of my life after, just afraid of the surgery itself.

It can be a bit intimidating if you've never been under before. It really is like falling asleep and waking up in the morning. You don't really recall that moment you went out. I actually lost the first few minutes before going under. I remember heading back to surgery and that's it. Next thing I knew I was waking up in recovery.

I've been under like 4 times now I think for various things. You'll do just fine :)

This is EXACTLY how I feel. Although I HAVE had surgeries before they were minor (carple tunnel and other hand surgeries) I am VERY afraid of the surgery and possible complications more than anything else. I really think everything will be ok. I tend to worry about things needlessly. Good luck!!!

It is normal to be scared and nervous. I have had numerous surgeries. The medical team, surgeons, anesthesiologist, etc. always made me feel super comfortable; I am sure your's will too. If I was overly anxious they (anesthesiology) gave me something to relax, etc. Before knew it I was in recovery. The biggest challenge for me was nausea, but once the anesthesia wore off, I felt soooo much better. Constipation is my biggest challenge 5 months out. The good thing is that it is treatable. Before you know it you will be on the "loser's bench." Thinking of you.

Thank you for your kind words. I can't wait to be on the loser's bench! I know it will all be worth it. I always get myself all worked up about things and then, after they're over I feel stupid for worrying so much. Did you have the sleeve? How are you doing?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
