Bad Breath 1 month post-op

Recommended Posts

It's a side effect from being on a low carb diet. It's a chemical released from ketosis and, unfortunately, decides to exit the body through our breath. The good news is that it isn't related to not brushing your teeth well enough, but the down side is that extra brushing won't be of much help. I'm sure your dentist would appreciate it though! Really the best thing to do is use mouthwash, get yourself some Listerine strips, etc. It really will only help mask it and won't do anything to make it go away completely, but it helps.

The first few weeks after surgery were the worst for me. It's gotten much better since then. Some mornings are rough but it passes as the day goes on.

Ype as @orionburn said it's completely normal when you're body is in a ketogenic state. I took a toothbrush with me everywhere...and mouthwash...lol. I use the breath-strips and they seem to work well. Careful with some mints like altoids and others that have sugar/sweeteners in them. While 1 or 2 now and again aren't bad, when you're purposely depriving yourself of sweet things, they can actually start to satisfy a craving, which will cause you to overeat them....

OMG! One moth post op and my breath is foul. What do do vsg community?

I suggest you take a product call Body Mint. One small green pill in the morning and one at night. You can find it on Amazon or EBay. Or you can buy the brand Now 100 mg Chlorophyll and again take as I mentioned above. It takes care of all body odors inside and out. It will make your poop green but that is normal. I had taken that product for over 10 years because of the same problem and my under arms. I had my surgery 1 Dec 2015. I went from 282 to present weight 156.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
