Blood Sugar Drops from any Activity

Recommended Posts

I am in week 2 of pureed food 2-3 oz. My blood sugar drops from any activity (walking, showering, washing the dishing). I was wondering if anyone are experiencing the same?

So beside being sarcastic. Do you actually have any advice?

I'm not being sarcastic, what are you wanting to know? You didn't ask anything. Are you wanting to know why it is happening? Are you wanting to know how to keep your blood sugar levels elevated? Are you truly hypoglycemic or are you just not eating enough? Is this a problem with some history or is it just since surgery?

A little more detail would be helpful.

Yes, I wanted why is it happening? Yes, I want to know how to keep my blood sugar levels elevated without interfering with the healing process by having high blood sugar level. No, I am not hypoglycemic nor do have history. As far not eating enough; I am following my plan.

My question is how do you know you are having low blood sugar? You said no history, but is that of hypoglycemia? Are you diabetic or on any diabetic medications?

I have do not diabetic medications. My surgeon inform to an eye on my sugar levels so my pcp prescribe a testing kit for me. My A1C was 7 before my surgery.

I am a diabetic for 15 years. I went from metformin twice a day and an insulin booster shot (not insulin) once a week to nothing post surgery. That's how quickly my blood sugar went to normal levels. By my 3 month follow up my A1C was a 5.9. Let your docs know about the drops by calling their office. They will likely taper you off the drugs. There is nothing you can do to prevent the lows while on medication.

Thank you. How do I get that graphic at the bottom? I meant I am not on medication.

Thank you.

My lows are 88, 78, 37, and 47. I have never been on diabetic medications to make that clear. I have only been on blood pressure meds.

88 and 78 are normal lows. If you are having 37 and 47, call your doctor immediately. Falling below 70 is dangerous and when you can start to feel symptoms from hypoglycemia. Not trying to scare you, but those lower numbers are scary. Report them as soon as possible.

Yikes, those are incredibly low! You definitely should speak to your doctor. In the interim, buy some natural orange juice. When your blood sugar is getting low, sip on that. Don't gulp! You'll go from low blood sugar to dumping syndrome in record time. Orange juice has been a old standby for Type 1 diabetics when they have used too much insulin or if their blood sugar levels crash from some other reason. They also make sugar pills. The are available in the pharmacy section I believe.

You may also want to ask your doctor about adding dried figs, dates, prunes, or apricots into your diet. They are naturally high in Fiber as well as a good source of natural sugars.

Mine has dropped to 27 as well. I was pre op diabetic though. I still eat low carb foods but have about 60 grams a day dr orders. I eat a healthy good carb snack like fruit before a work out helps too. Im 6 months out a1c 4.6 now. I still have lows.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
