Healthy beverages besides water.

Recommended Posts

I have a confusion. I did drink a mixed drink while on vacation day 1. I felt terrible. I didn't get drunk which was good but man did I feel guilty. And it wasn't worth it at all. On vacation in New Orleans, drinking capital of the world. I won't do that again. I honestly don't like Water. I try and try to get it down. Besides Powerade, anyone have suggestions on good healthy beverages?

Thanks Nancy

Water with crystal light, coconut Water. Sports drinks tend to be high in Sugar and sodium. Water really is the best option.

Crystal Light (or the Great Value brands from Walmart) are my go-to drinks. The nice thing about them is you can mix up the flavors and come up with some unique combos. We use a 2 quart pitcher at home and I'll do something like combine a grape with a berry pomegranate, or apple with another flavor.

Another thing I like to do is mix in a bit of the diet cranberry juices from Ocean Spray. They have couple different ones besides regular cranberry, like cran-grape. They're only 5 calories and carbs are really low per serving. I don't typically drink it straight but would mix in 1/4 of a glass with the cranberry juice and the rest with Crystal Light. Prior to surgery I'd do that combo with a shot of vodka if I wanted a drink outside of beer.

The Propel waters are pretty good as well.

I absolutely love plain iced Decaf tea. I drink a lot of it during the day. And I also mix my unflavored Protein Powder in it and it tastes good. You could add a sugar substitute to it like Stevia, and even some lemon if you like.

The best thing I did was get a good quality juicer and started juicing vegetables. I usually add a couple of apples or pears, or a lemon and some ginger for taste. It would be hard for me to eat a pound of greens, 10 carrots, a head of celery and 2-3 cucumbers in a day, but I can drink them no problem.

It's one of those things that you can do and immediately feel the difference through increased energy, better sleep, more focus, etc. Personally, I like the "slower" juicers as they seem to do a better job at the greens. I use vegetables (and a few fruits) in juices I would otherwise most likely never use. Some of what I use or have used in juices are:

  • Carrots (including green tops)
  • Celery
  • Beets (including green tops)
  • Radishes
  • Peppers (sweet and hot)
  • Cucumbers
  • Zucchini
  • Yellow Squash
  • Butternut Squash
  • Tomato
  • Spinach
  • Kale
  • Collard Greens
  • Chard
  • Romaine
  • Parsley
  • Cilantro
  • Dandelion
  • Ginger Root
  • Turmeric Root
  • Lemons
  • Limes
  • Sweet Potato
  • Apples
  • Pears
  • Cabbage
  • Wheatgrass
  • Asparagus
  • Broccoli
  • Arugula
  • Bok Choy
  • Mustard Greens
  • Basil
  • Watercress

All of these are extreme sources of Water as well....and not just "normal old water" but structured water. H3O2 rather than H2O, but not the "bought and purchased" structured water...actual structured water. This is what feeds you. You can experiment and find combinations that you like.

Sure it takes some prep work, but I find that part very relaxing, and the end result is an amazing beverage that actually feeds you while it hydrates you. Best of luck!

Hi! What kind of unflavored Protein powder do you use? I've been looking for a good one :)

Hello :)

Currently I am using Isopure, but I have also used Unjury. They are both good ones.

I absolutely love Water so that's pretty much all I drink but when I need a break or something different I drink Bai or add a sugar feee drink packet (there are so many flavors but I've only tried the Hawaiian Punch ones so far) to my water to change it up.

I like Crystal Light - most flavors. I drink a lot of Vitamin Water Zero Rise Flavor. I also drink G2 Grape or Raspberry Lemonade.

When not drinking Water I drink a lot of Iced Tea, unsweetened and fresh brewed. I also will drink Crystal Light from time to time but the artificial sweetener has become kind of gross so I really have to be in the mood for it.

I make herbal iced teas unsweetened. Davids Tea is a shop here that does all kinds of amazing fruity teas that taste fantastic iced. Most are 10 calories or less but they are sweet and refreshing. In my program we are also encouraged to drink skim or 1% milk as it is a source of protein

I love to make iced tea out of the fruit teas. All fruit teas have a green tea base so you do get a bit of caffeine. They taste awesome!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
