Has anyone went throught the surgery and your family is not supportive. I am getting all the pre op done, in fact I have my psyc eval done tomorrow, :clap2: However I told my younger sister that I am going to be doing this and she is not happy at all and sent me a email on friday telling me this is the wrong thing to do, and it is all in my head and that I should just diet. I have asked her to come to my appts so that she can ask the surgeon any questions she may have she will not go. :angry

My husband is also not approving of the surgery he is supportive because he knows this is what I want to do, but doesn't agree with it at all. I am nervous because this is a huge life chaning situation and I would think my sister out of all people would be suportive. No one else in my family knows.

Everyone was gung ho for me to have the surgery, but we conceived our children through IVF and two of my siblings were dead set against it...and not shy in telling me that THEY wouldn't do it...and that we should adopt etc...

Well, I found that I gave them the following reply after EVERY TIME they said it and it worked well. They finally got the hint and stopped giving me their unwanted opinions.

"I appreciate that you feel so strongly about this, but when I mentioned it to you I was not asking for your opinion, I was meerly making conversation and telling you what we are going to do."

It really couldn't get much more direct short of saying...SHUT THE HECK UP>>>>WHO ASKED YOUR OPINION???

Take care and best of luck.

SCANJ05,

I'm sorry your family isn't behind you. But, remember the choice of lap-band surgery is your!! I think most family member are scared of the up the coming surgery. Also, unless your over weigh or been over weigh I don't think anyone can fully understand our struggles. The pursuit of a health weight has to come from within.

I'm very happy with the band.

I think I posted this before, but I've been fat since I was 10. If I could have done it just by dieting, I would have already. I needed the help, something to get me going.

If your sister won't go and won't learn about the surgery, then I think that's too sad for her. Is she overweight, too? Is it jealousy? Or is she thin, and doesn't understand about being overweight?

As always, in the end, you have to do what's best for you. No one else can make the decision for you, and they shouldn't think that they can.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
