5 days post op and going to a party tonight. Of course it's a pot luck party and everyone brings a dish. I have my bottle of crystal light ready. I haven't told any of my friends about this surgery and I don't think I am ready to tell them yet. Is it wrong just to say I am in a diet? Does that make me a bad person for omitting the big truth??

Not at all.....it's nobody's business. If you did like me, you probably placed yourself on a restrictive eating plan in the months before surgery (to start getting used to smaller portions), and have already lost some weight. If anyone asks, just say you recently had gall bladder or hernia surgery (I said hernia surgery), and are a high Protein, low carb diet to assist with healing. You can add that an added benefit of your dietary restrictions (from the surgery) is some weight loss, so even after you've healed, you're gonna continue with that style of eating......none of that would be untrue.....

I'm only 5 days post op and I'm going with the gallbladder /hernia (that part is true) and the high protein low carbs. It's my business and feel like I don't have to explain myself

Thank you all. I went with hernia surgery! And worked like a charm!
The funny thing is that it is no secret that I am fat. I get that. I've always gotten that. But this surgery feels like my super power tool that I want to keep for myself....right now anyway. And I am not in the right place yet to explain to people why I went this route. I love this app and all of you because you all know exactly what it is to be like to be the fat friend and now to be the one making this huge decision. I wish you all well. And I thank you for being here for me.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
