Port Placement question

Recommended Posts

:help:Hi all. I am a newbie looking to have surgery soon. My surgeon has developed a different port placement instead of tacking it on the stomach muscles he can put it on the upper chest just under the collar bone. I was wondering if anyone else has had this placement and if so their results. It is supposed to make fills easier. Look forward to hearing from all of you. Thanks Jeannie

I cant imagine it - my upper chest is bordering on scrawny these days - you can see the ribs on my chest and my collarbones are very sharply defined. I have very little fat left on my upper body. If I had a port below my collarbone, I can guarantee it would stick right out!

I think its much better placed on the abdomen to be honest. Less visible even at goal weight.

:whoo:I can only dream of a day when I will have a bony chest. I never even considered the possibility of it sticking out I was thinking more along the lines of comfort and ease of fill. Keep your fingers crossed that one day i will be able to complain that my port is showing because my chest has gotten bony!!!

That's a common location for central line ports for chemo patients--it's close to all the big veins, but it's not cosmetically appealing. Remember, anywhere they place your port will have a 1-2 inch scar.

I agree with JACHUT--I'm much more likely to appear in public with my collarbone area exposed than with my navel hanging out.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
