I just cannot understand why this discussion won't die. The ingredients specifically say it is made from whey Protein. I don't care what "magic" they allegedly perform, it is impossible for there to be 30 grams of "equivalent" Protein in a tablespoon serving and only 98 calories.

The thing that is so hard to understand is that there are so many real protein supplements that there is no question or debate on the efficacy of the product. The only thing that GENEPRO has going for it that is not up for debate is how well it dissolves in liquid. That is not enough to warrant wasting money on it.

Thank you this guy gets it. Pure snake oil. I tell everyone I can to not fall into the boutique Protein Powder trap. There are so many great whey powders on the market that all do the same thing (deliver protein in an easy to consume manner). Read the labels, note nutritional numbers and ingredients, find a flavor you can stand and dissolves well and away you go.

@zippyskippy - two years I have been repeating the same thing. People want to believe that they are doing something that works or helps, even if it is not true.

Aside from the fact that I thought they tasted awful, I mean gelatinous cough syrup/jolly rancher hybrid really really bad, their primary source of Protein is collagen, then whey, and lastly casein. Collegen protein is technically a protein yes, but it isn't much more than a nitrogen donor. Casein is a decent protein though. Whey is still the reigning king for muscle mass retention and growth.

Even with that low opinion of the Protein Shots, they are still better than GENEPRO. As a list, I would go like this:

  • Whey
  • Casein
  • Beef or Bone powder
  • Soy
  • Egg (the powder, not the real thing. Real eggs rock)
  • Pea
  • Collagen
  • Toenails
  • Dirt
  • Velveeta cheese or aerosol cheese spread
  • Genepro

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
