Hungry 3 Months Post Op

Recommended Posts

I was 3 months post op on the 16th and I just started noticing that it's been really hard to stay around 800-900 calories which was very easy to do before. This past week I've been around 1,000-1,100 calories. I work out 30 minutes 3 times a week so it's not so much where it should be making me hungry. Has anyone experienced this increase in hunger? I've been around 60g of Protein a day.

It gets worse. The hunger returns completely. I find myself dieting just like before, with 30 lbs regained. Just struggling. Hard to excercise when you get older like me but I just bought a treadmill. Good luck.

It may not actually be hunger. Try taking an PPI and see if that helps. I am 4+ years out and I remember a similar thing happened to me shortly after surgery. This helped me a ton. Good luck.

Is it real hunger or head hunger? Im about 3 months post, too. When im truly hungry, i get light headed. I try not to get to that point by eating every 3 to 4 hours and drinking tons of Water. Head hunger hits me when im in a funky mood or im bored. I just try to talk mysekf out of it and distract myself with other things. If you are exercising regularly, you need 1000 calories or more. Im getting there, but mostly 900 calorie days at most.

I'm also 3 months out and feeling more of both real and head hunger. Like others have mentioned, some days I'm able to eat quite a bit. Other days, not so much. I'm doing all the right things and still losing, but it's slow going (2 pounds a week). I realize that it's a healthy pace, but it's natural to wish for more. I was at about 700-800 calories a day for a while. Now I'm at about 1000-1100. I'm going to work on getting it back down.

I'm about 6months out and I remember thinking I was hungry as well but it was gas. I also noticed when I ate things I'm not supposed to have like sugar the 'hunger' gets worse. I've stopped doing that and back on high Protein and rarely get hungry now. Hang in there.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
