Low Vit D and B12 Prior to surgery, Will this be affect approval?

Recommended Posts

Anyone have Low Vit D and/ or B12 prior to surgery? Did this affect insurance approval?

I have been taking Prescription D for a year and numbers came up but not enough to clear the deficiency and recent blood-work added B12 deficiency. My current PCP is suggesting to just take otc supplements (which I have been doing) previous PCP gave RX Vitamin.

Just wondering mainly if it will affect approval process. Also any supplement recommendations would be great.

Thanks in Advance

I had a severe Vitamin D deficiency when I began my six month pre-op diet program. My surgeon's NP put me on a prescription Vitamin D supplement, and I took it twice a week for the entire six months. It didn't affect insurance at all.

I have been taking vit D for two years now and my levels have finally gone up-yay! At the lowest, my level was 8. I was approved before my levels went back up, and on all of the paperwork my dr has me diagnosed as having a Vitamin D deficiency.

I was taking Vitamin D2 1.25 mg (50,000 unit) capsules once a week, prescribed by my doctor.

Mine was 6. I was horrified.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
