Liquid diet and weight loss

Recommended Posts

I posted this on another board and didn't get many responses. I hope that's not a bad sign:cry. I hope someone here has some thoughts on this matter.

I'm on day 8 of my 10 pre-op liquid diet. I've been eating between 750-1000 calories (quite a drastic cut from my usual amount). The first couple of days I lost weight, but for the last several, I got NOTHING! After starving all day, I think at least there should be some reward on the scale. My surgeon said I should lose about 14 pounds pre-op, and so far it's closer to 4 (DH lost 24 pounds pre-op on the same diet). I'm starting to think that if it's this hard losing on this few calories, it's not going to get any easier after I have the band. Any hope that this will get better? Also, I'm still breastfeeding, so I'm suppose to be burning between 500-1000 calories a day just doing that.

:help:

I have had a couple of things happen similar to what you are going through. My former wife had 2 lapbands due to the first one leaking. You might check to see if the band is getting proper fill not missing the port when being filled and check if the band is leaking. Hope this helps.

It could be Water weight. I'm not as good as explaining as some people on this board are as to why these things happen, but don't be disappointed! It's not that unusual. I would think you're retaining water with breast feeding too..

The one thing that pops into my mind is breast feeding and a limited calorie diet? That is a bit concerning.

Are you drinking a ton of Water as well?

There are lots of reasons things aren't showing up on the scale just yet. Keep in mind, none of us are patient people and I know for me I'll go days without losing anything then I'll lose a pound a day for three days. Weight loss isn't something you can bank on from day to day, just know it will happen. Honest! :)

Yeah, I was concerned about the calorie cut while breastfeeding too. My surgeon wasn't concerned and said just to drink an extra shake. My baby is over 9 months old though, so I've been supplementing with other foods.

I was wondering if it could be that I wasn't drinking enough Water. I've been drinking lots more today. I hope that helps! It just gets discouraging to think I could cut my food down to nothing and my body would find a way to stay fat anyway;)

Thanks for all the help!

I nursed my twins for two months post op... They were 19 months when I quit and only nursing two times a day, so I didn't have to worry too much. Just make sure you are drinking water....lots of water...

Nursing and being banded is possible, best of luck to you.

Lorraine

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
