I think it is super helpful that the self righteous out there say no. Never. Impossible. Not me. Im awesome!!!!!........Ugh....anyways, I was making Peanut Butter and jelly sandwiches for the kids a couple days ago and licked the jelly off the knife. It dawned on me what I had done and immediately tried to rinse out my mouth with Water like some cartoon character that ate hot sauce. A sight to behold, let me tell you. I totally understand what you did. Its more force of habit than conscious eating. We need to be on high alert status whenever we are near food. Be careful!

So being 100% devoted to your weight loss journey makes a person self-righteous?

Not sure where anyone said they were awesome. I answered a question with the truth. Does that really make me self righteous or does it make me a person who took the surgery serious and for ME that meant I stuck to the plan especially in the early months. I certainly wasn't judging. 😜

Yes! I've actually done it a few times. I've got six kids so I'm constantly making Snacks or meals and I've accidentally popped something in my mouth several times. It definitely hurts. I just have a lot of bad habits to break and obviously ones I wasn't even aware I was doing before sleeved. I can only imagine how many calories I consumed just by grazing a little each time I made my kids food

I wouldn't say I forgot but I did have a moment at post op week 4 or so when I was making my hubby dinner and I popped a Pasta noodle in my mouth to see if it was al dente.. It was more of a mindless habit kind of thing. I was pretty irritated with myself for not being more aware.

I 'started' to do the same thing. I was cooking for the family about two-three weeks post op; my 13YO daughter was cooking with me. I popped a noodle in my mouth to see if it was done, completely NOT thinking anything, and she yelled, "Mommy, can you do that?!" I yanked that sucker out of my mouth so quick! So yes, it can happen. It wasn't a 'hungry' decision; it was completely a blonde moment... and no matter what your hair color, I think we can all have blonde moments. ;)

Sorry that you had pain... that's scary. Mine didn't go down, so I got lucky. Thank God my daughter was using her brain... cause I sure wasn't.

Yes, when I was cooking for my family at about 6 weeks post op I just nonchalantly tossed the grilled end tip of a tritip into my mouth and chewed, swallowed, and immediatly realized what I had done. lol! It happens.

When I was on my liquid diet for a year I had many instances where I'd be making something and taste or snack and then realize what I'd done. lol! As a cook it's important to taste your food to know if it's going well. I've learned to not take bites but tastes only. Takes a while though. I spent 41 years doing it one way.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
