Surviving the 3 week post op liquid diet.

Recommended Posts

I'm 1 Wk from surgery, feeling great, no pain or anything. I just don't know how I can survive not having any food for 2 more weeks. Any ideas will be helpful. I don't want to cheat because I know it's for my own good. But it is hard.

3 weeks, huh? Did you notice a 666 anywhere on your surgeon's body?

Well, you will probably not care too much for a couple days after surgery while you recover, but honestly, find something to occupy your mind. Start a fight club, follow strangers and mime air quotes to what they are saying, or simply pee in your surgeon's gas tank (You wanted me on fluids, here ya go buddy).

Ok, don't do any of that, but do find something you like outside of food and enjoy the heck out of it. And it's ok to cry too. I'm a guy and I never knew just how much stress that releases.

Once i was able to have full liquids i made myself a big quantity of a lebanese dish called "laban emmo" its basically a mix of plain yogourt and meat broth that saved my life..it tasts so good so i had it a couple of time a day no prob.(normally ud add beef cubes and eat it with rice). And its also full of Protein.

Heres the recipe if ur interested.

Basically you put a pint of low fat yogourt in a pan with 1 TBSP of corn starch mix it together and then heat it while stirring until it boils. In the mean time u also bring to a boil 1 cup of broth, then mix them together stir for about a minute and leave on low for about 10 min stirring from time to time.

Good luck!

The upside that after surgery you likely could care less about food. While going through the liquid phase I didn't really miss food. I had no interest in it at all. My biggest struggle was just being burned out on Protein Shakes. There would be times my wife cooked for herself and while it smelled good I still didn't want to eat.

Best advice I can offer is to try and have at least 2-3 flavors of Protein Powder for variety, have a mix of drink options (Propel Water, the zero calorie Powerade or Gatorade, Crystal Light drink mixes, etc), sugar free popsicles, and anything else to add variety to this phase. I went through a phase of things tasting weird. Flavors I truly loved before surgery tasted just awful for about a week. That's why having a variety of options will help.

Good morning! I too struggled wondering how I could survive on pure liquids for 14 days BUT low and behold each day has gotten easier for me! Yesterday I got in so much liquid and 30g Protein Drink :) I I'll be moving to puréed Monday. My go "snack" has been sugar free popsickles chopped in up with about an ounce of Water and crushed ice, my pouch has no issues with it & I usually have that two times a day now.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
