I had my surgery a couple of years ago. It has been both good and bad. I started off around 330. At my lowest I got down to 159. Now Im regulated at 180 pounds. Ive went up and down and it can be stressful. I had a social life prior to the surgery after the surgery not so much.

I cant eat or drink alot. I really cant eat and drink at the same time. Im still not eating a full meal and im cool with that tho. It just makes it a little rough with friends who want to go out eat and drink and im sitting on the side either nibbling at something or sipping on something for the entire night...lol

I havent told many people so ppl may wonder why im sipping and nibbling and I usually give some lame excuse.

My question is did you find that your friendships and intimate relationships changed after surgery? Any body start over with love?

In my case I'm lucky in that my wife and I a few years ago moved across Canada. Undoubtedly when I visit my family and in-laws there will be many questions and shock about my weight drop. While I'm very social, my wife isn't really an outgoing person. She prefers to keep to us, our daughter, and some of her old friends back in Ontario. I know plenty of people from both work and college but I prefer to keep those things separate from private life. So for us we don't really encounter those situations. Besides that, my wife is Chinese, and her family is already accustomed to me hating their food (I hate like 98% of food which I'm sure makes many people wonder how I got fat in the first place) so me avoiding their dinners and eating out beforehand won't be anything new.

Dude! who cares what they think go out with your friends have fun have a life. if they ask and most likely they wont tell them your not hungry. or your watching your carb intake. point of it all is you are a new size not a new person.

I had a great social life before and have a great social life now. It hasn't changed a bit (very early days I just used to go out with family and friends who knew what I had had done though).

Life is there to live and don't care what others say. Congratulations on the weight loss !!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
