10stackzz 184 Posted March 20, 2017 Sleeve, hiatal repair and removal of previous scar tissue. Fighting through this discomfort. Scared to take all the meds because I have no food in me. I have a little cough, I'm sure I picked up from the hospital. I would rather pass out then cough. It's very painful. My first post op appointment is Tuesday, so I think I will get a Vitamin I.V drip when I go because I know I haven't been getting the daily recommended dose. I'm not obsessed with how much I weigh right now...Im just trying to have bowel movement...none since Thursday. I did finally pass gas...which was uplifting...lets me know my bowels are waking up. I thank God for everything!
_Kate_ 2,224 Posted March 20, 2017 Congratulations and speedy recovery! Hold a pillow over the tummy area for when you cough (If you get enough warning you are about to cough that is!) 1 GrrlAnn reacted to this
10stackzz 184 Posted March 20, 2017 Yes, it takes some of the pressure away...Thanks for your advice.
mylighthouse 782 Posted March 20, 2017 Most times it will take several days after the surgery before you are able to have a bowel movement, so don't be too concerned about that. I didn't have my first BM until over a week post op. I remember feeling like I really needed to go, but I couldn't (bad constipation). I checked with my surgeon and he said it was safe to take Miralax and/or Milk of Magnesia.... I did both because the Miralax alone didn't work for me. I think I finally had a BM on the 8th or 9th day post op. I hope you feel better.
GrrlAnn 177 Posted March 20, 2017 Around day 7 or 8 my stomach loosened up a lot. I went from not being able to drink more than .5oz of Water at a time to being able to drink 1-2 oz of Protein Shake.< br> 1 Patty R reacted to this
Indian princess 1 Posted March 21, 2017 I'm on POD#5 too. It's hard getting all the fluids in. My doc wants 60oz fluids and 60gm Protein, 5 walks, no more than 1oz every 15 minutes. That doesn't leave much time for sleeping. I have an abdominal binder that helps with the occasional cough. I'm a freak about BMs so I take Gummy Fiber squares and have had 2 bms already. All is well! Good luck to everyone! This is definitely not the easy way out! 1 JustGettingStarted reacted to this
