So Tommorow is one week post op and I feel like I'm doing something wrong. I can barely get in 20g of Protein a day, and am never hungry. Today I went out on a limb to try and ensure I'm following rules. I had a sugar free pop sickle and then I began sipping on my protein premier shake (strawberries n cream), I also had unsweet tea with three Splenda, and sips of Water. I got nauseated and then puked up some nasty smelling stuff that was dark n color. I had also swallowed two pills one for acid reflux and an Iron pill within secs of each other. Did I do something wrong?

I know my doctor was very adamant about taking 5-10 minutes between each pill. I know it sounds crazy, but I am about a week out, same as you, and I personally haven't thrown any pills up yet. Maybe you can try to space out your pills a bit. It is so hard for me to remember not to just take them as I would before surgery, but it is definitely a rule of thumb I have been following for sure.

Wishing you so much luck in your journey!

I agree that spacing your pills will help. You are so early out that your tummy is swollen and not nearly ready to hold to full capacity.

I thought that I was doing something wrong also. At one week out I couldn't get my Protein or my Water all in.

Have since learned that this is normal but keep trying. You won't be completely officially healed until 6 months out.

I am 6 weeks out and can now easily get all my protein in. I'm still working on getting more water but I am plenty hydrated with what I am getting now so I don't beat myself up about it. I will get there though:-)

Congratulations on your new tiny tummy. These first weeks are tough but you can do it.

Take care

Small sips and small bites. I still do that nearly 4 months out. It's just more comfortable that way.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
