Is it normal for my incision to be oozing? It's the port incision. Its kind of a yellow liquid, its not like pus, it's almost the color and consistency of melted butter. Its a very small amount. I have no other signs of infection....no fever, no chills, no redness around the area, the area is not warm to the touch and there is no odor. I will call my surgeon in the morning but I was just wondering if this is normal in the meantime. Thanks.

That is called serous drainage. Better out than in. But be sure to call your doc in the morning. I am sure you are fine but I never want to be accused of giving bad advice.

Did you doc tell you about the probability of a seroma? Google it. My surgeon said that 7 of 10 people get a seroma to some degree. Your drainage is possibly due to this. The fat is breaking down and it is liquified, has to come out somewhere. As the poster above me said, if it is any drainage (and it certainly could be serous drainage), it is much better out than in! Congrats on being banded!

no need to google....A seroma is a pocket of clear serous fluid that sometimes develops in the body after surgery. When small blood vessels are ruptured, blood plasma can seep out; inflammation caused by dying injured cells also contributes to the Fluid.< /p>

Aloha Mandi

Mine did the same thing, I got worried also but it stopped in a few days. Just keep a check on it a make sure it doesn't get red or you get a temp. Good luck and congrats on the band. I love mine, down a total of 69 Lbs.

Aloha

The previous replies were what mine turned out to be....just the fat in there kind of oozing out. Mine was not an infection and turned out to be nothing serious. Just watch it and if it gets hot or red, definitely contact your dr. If you are worried about it, also call your doc. It's better to be safe than sorry.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
