BCBS Ca weight loss management

Recommended Posts

I am a little over half way threw my 6 month weight loss management. I have lossed 11 pounds so far. My fear is if I loose a good amount of weight they may say I can do it without the surgery. Has anyone gone threw this?

I think it depends on your starting weight and BMI. If you are close to 40, it might be a possibility but those in the high 40s and 50s prob not.

Honestly, i didnt try to lose weight in my 6 months... it case that was an issue.

I dont know what your stats are but i think 4lbs a month, while a good start, isnt going to put a huge dent in your weight unless you have a low bmi.

I am bcbs Mn I'm 15lbs down and 5 months in. I'm only waiting on insurance approval now. No one has said anything about how much I lost and not being covered. If anything it shows you can make the changes to be successful.... Good luck on ur journey

My BMI is 54. My high weight was 311 and I'm now 293. I have one month left. I asked the doctors assistance if I should loose a lot or a little. They couldn't answer me. I really hope it doesn't affect me. Each time I stick to the diet the weight falls off super fast and it makes me scared. I know diets are short term. Thanks for your response.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
