Personal Trainer?

Recommended Posts

Ask for help. Hopefully you don't have to purchase training sessions just to find out how to correctly use the weights and equipment. I'm going back to la fitness in a couple of months and will do just that. I'm all in this time. I'm done being embarrassed.

My gym was having a sale on personal training sessions and I purchased 20 of them. I got sleeved April 25th and starting the PT sessions on June 18th with the plan to go 2x a week. I was very open with the trainer about my surgery and goals. He said hes had many clients in the past who were bariatric patients, knowing that helped put my mind at ease. Of course my goal is to lose weight and see the scale numbers go down but my real focus is getting healthier and fit.

Been using a personal trainer 3x week for about a month. Definitely better than I have ever done in the gym since I know I am doing the excercises correctly and have a plan mapped out for me versus just going on my own and doing whatever I feel like that day. Also I now go to every session since I'm paying for it! My advice is to do it if you can swing the cost, an the small groups mentioned above are great since the trainer still does (or should) do a individual workout plan for each member of the group.

I currently have a membership at Planet Fitness. I haven't found the staff helpful in terms of training. The other gym near me is an LA Fitness but that is much more than the Planet Fitness. They have the same machines and the weight weighs the same so no sense paying more. Haven't found many local gyms that offer personal training. I'll try doing it myself for a few weeks and see if I get results. I'm thinking twice a week. My shoulders and arms are really scrawny. The exercises I'm thinking of are chest press, shoulder press, seated cable row, leg press, leg curl, and calf extensions.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
