How is you hunger level?

Recommended Posts

I keep reading differing experiences on the sleeve, I know all bodies are different - but since I won't know until I do the surgery I am just wanting to know the "odds: chances" that my hunger will be gone or less. I can't find any statistics around this anywhere. Does anyone know the stats like:

75% of patients are significantly less hungry 10% never feel hunger again and have to remind them self to eat 10% have the same amount of hunger as they did pre surgery and 5% are hungry than before surgery.

Also what is your specific experience with hunger levels right after surgery and longer term for people who are a little farther out?

I am about 5.5 months out. If I go about 4 hours without eating anything (when I get wrapped up in work or an when I am out and about doing something), I am hungry in the sense that I know I need to eat because I am feeling weak, but that's about it. I also eat about 7 times per day, about 2 hours apart, so I don't usually get to that point. Overall, I wouldn't describe hunger as a big deal for me now. Though before I began my journey, my issues were less about hunger than they were with just eating to eat and then eating terrible things on top of that. There lies the mental battle which is the most significant part of this journey.

1.5 years out. I am only physically hungry if I go 16 plus hours without eating. I do 16/8 fasting, and sometimes I get busy and might go 18 or 20 hours without eating.

I didn't have head hunger at all the first year once I could eat food that I could chew. Head hunger has crept back in lately, but that is mainly because of life issues.

I'm a month out. If I go 3-4 hours without eating my body tells me it's time so I have to grab a Protein Drink or food. I don't know if it's because I'm freshly off surgery but lately I've been so stressed out at work & school so the head hunger is kicking in. I think that's more emotional that doesn't have to do with the sleeve. The first 3 weeks, I wasn't that hungry but I think it's because I was swollen & healing.

Height: 5'0"
Weight for WLS consultation: 216 lbs.
Surgery date: 2/13/17
Goal: -71 lbs for healthy BMI (about 145 lbs).
Current weight: 185.2
My profile picture is not me. It's my "FITspiration" body.

Im over 3 years out, and I wasn't really physically hungry (only head hunger) until 2 years post op.

The hardest part of this whole thing for me was telling the difference. My surgeon said we never really knew physical hunger before, because we were so used to eating whenever the urge hit us.

I am about 18 months out now and try to stick to three meals a day and two Snacks. I don't have hunger but my body tells me when I need to eat. it's hard to explain as it's just a feeling that I get.

I am 5 weeks out, I really don't feel hungry but I know I need to eat because my stomach kinda hurts and drinking fluids doesn't make it go away.

I don't get hungry in the way I used to. Like blizair09, if I get caught up in work and forget to eat I can tell it is time when my stomach starts rumbling and I feel kinda crappy. I try never to get that stage, but it happens. That being said I can calm my stomach with some Water if needed immediately, something I was never able to do before surgery.

I'm almost 2 months out, my head hunger is always there. When my body is actually hungry, the rumble is almost painful now.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
