Recommended Posts

Please Help I am new here Im in my approval stage Everything has went really good so far and my insurance will pay I am in the process of scheduling all my pre op appointments only thing holding me back from getting a date is my surgeon asked that I lose 50lbs first I know that isn't a lot but it is for someone who weight constantly fluctuates and have hypothyroidism PLEASE HELP I really want to have a date within 3months So I need to lose the weight in 3months. Also I work full-time. BTW When I weighed in at my consultation which was Wednesday 3/15/17 I weighed 421.7 Now I am 418.2 but it fluctuates and I can never get it under 410 but I also haven't been doing any diets or exercising so hopefully when I go to my diet class on 3/28 I can get a good diet plan Also I plan on joining a gym Sunday.

Are you on medication for the hypothyroidism? Does your surgeon have a nutritionist that can help you? My personal recommendation would be a Protein Shake for Breakfast and lunch and a healthy dinner. (lean Protein and veggies) Good luck.

I would suggest looking at the post op diets. My doctor's plan is about 1200 to 1500 calories with Protein first then non starchy veggies (fruit is only after veggies if you are still hungry). You want to make sure you are taking the Vitamins. If you are working out at the gym then protein is necessary to make sure you keep your muscle. Eat protein within 30 minutes of finishing your workout. My trainer told me to either have a Protein Shake with amino acids or eat meat as it is already a complete protein with the amino acids after the workout. I started at 377 and my goal was 120 grams of protein a day. I find that i get 20 to 30 grams of protein per "meal" so that means i actually eat about four times per day. So that may give you a guide. The key for me is to make my own food and to avoid eating out.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
