I'm new to the group and just had my surgery March 7th. I have been on a waiting list for at least 5 years. It took me 1 whole year to apply after the doctor gave me the papers. I was so scared.

I got the call to start the liquid diet. The day of my surgery I thought I would be stressed seeing as I wasn't really ready for the Surgery when I aplied as well as its a life changing operation. Surprisingly I was crazy calm. I don't understand it. I get anxiety from time to time so I thought I would need someone to hold my hand through it. I guess I was truly ready to change my life.

Pre-op I lost 15 pounds and to date (9 Days post) I have lost 27.8 pounds. It's so exciting. I'm now in the 200's that I have not seen in 3 years. Gained almost 50 pounds after deciding to quit smoking. [emoji377]

Getting my protine intake is a struggle and truly hard work. Just never hungry and hiccups 24/7. Even in my sleep. [emoji99] NO regrets. I see a huge difference already and this is just the beginning of my new life.

Melissa, 5 years on a waiting list??? Where do you live? Congrats on having the courage to go through with it. I also quit smoking, while going through this process, but thankfully with healthy choices I gained a few pounds, but quickly lost it. Previously quotting smoking added about 20 or 30 pounds.

You are having awesome results so far, keep up the great work. I'm getting sleeved on 3/31 and cant wait!!! [emoji4]

I was told 3-10 years and even then if i was prepped for the surgery and someone 'more deserving' came in, they would take my surgery place. I am in England and that was with the NHS.

So I went private.

Congratulations MelissaEC !!! You go girl :D

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
