hello all, im new to this forum. im a 29 year old SAHM. im considering the lapband surgery & am here to talk with others going thru or who have gone thru what i am now. ;)

i was pretty average growing up. i often joke that i was good til i turned 16, got my license & directions to the drive thru :) i have lost & gained weight so many times & so many different ways over the years. im just sick of it. my negative feelings towards myself are now affecting my children & my husband. its time for me to take control.

i currently weight around 300 pounds. ugh, i havent typed that number out, ever. anyways, i look forward to talking with you all.

:welcomeB:,

You will find a lot of us in similar circumstances here.

I am hoping to get a date for the op soon.

My advice to you is to read all the information you can get and if there are any seminars going in your area, you should go to them. If there is more than one centre doing the op in your area check them all out. Make a list of pros and cons, but most of all, make sure that the decision you make is right for you - you are the one having the op - do not let yourself be pressured into anything you are not comfortable with.

Good luck on your journey, do keep in touch and let us know how you are getting on.

;)

I'm new to this forum but have been banded for several months now. I started at 275 and I'm down 81lbs..... the band is a great tool. Keep doing your research and hang in there. You can do this.

A big help for me was reading "Fighting Weight" by Khaliah Ali, daughter of Mohammad Ali, the fighter.

It's a great read for what happened to her before and after surgery....gives you a good insight...you can find it at any major bookstore.

I knew before I read the book I was going to do this, but reading her experiences lessened the fear of the unknown.

Good luck !!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
