banded on 10/05 I am drinking a low carb slim fast drink right now. I am light headed which makes me a bit anxious. any suggestions? I can drink without any problems. This new life is a major change. I just want to get healed up and live normal again. I can have most anything as long as it is no thicker than paint consitancy. MY heart is skipping a few beats here and there. I will rest as much as I can today, and am suppose to go back to work tomorrow. Please write me with your words of encouragement!!!

My date was 10/02/07-tomorrow I start my full liquid diet. Finally! The Clear Liquids didn't bother me so much, until I came back to work today. I don't know if it's the stress or everyone eating around me, but my tummy is growling a bit more today (although I'm still not hungry). I can actually drink more fluids now too. I guess my swelling is going down. Don't know if I've lost weight yet, don't want to know until I go to my doc's on Thurs.... :car:

Hello....I got banded on October 3. Does anyone else feel upper back pain? I think it is just radiating pain but I was curious if anyone else felt it.

Dina - that sounds like gas pains you are having. Mine was in the left chest area and radiated around to my back and shoulder. Try a heating pad and walk, walk, walk!! It will get better!

Thanks for your concern. I am seeing my doctor this Friday for my post-op and I will talk to him about it. I do think that it is gas pain though because when I move around it feels alot better.

I can tell from your response you are kindof in that freaked out what have I done stage. It sounds like a lot of new bandsters go through it. And it sounds like everyone turns a corner and love their band. I am sending you good vibes for a great first day back tomorrow! We are here if you need to talk.

I was banded on Friday the 5th. This is the first chance I've had to respond to you all. Everything went well. I had a bit trouble getting past the anestesia (spell) as each time I got up to walk I would feel sick. The nurses and DH convinced me to stay the night at the hospital until it was out of my system. Later that evening they gave me some broth, and afterwards I was just fine. I was walking the halls alot. No problem. I came home the next morning (Saturday). I had, and still have, some discomfort, with I take my meds for when it gets really bad. But not much. I take 1/2 a pill and that's it. I came back to work this morning. Hanging in with the liquids, can't wait till I get to creamed and pureed stage! But it is coming. I have one spot on my tummy that is constantly sore, I think that may be were the port is(?) Hard to tell, I can't feel it through my fat!

So I have officially joined bandland! I am on my way to a new and improved me!

Best of luck to each of you.

I HATE JELL-O! :angry

I'm not sure how the rest of you folks feel but I'm so over my liquid phase. I tried convincing myself its something else but my brain has picked this time to become smart! Really craving a salad. Guess I need the crunch. I was worried I'd need the caffeine but haven't touched it since Wednesday and no withdrawal.

Hey everyone how are us Week 1 of October Bandsters doing?

Week 2 Folks - Good Luck! Some of you are done WOOHOO!

Any word on Holly? She went today right?

Future Banders - All I can tell you is WALK them halls. I had no gas pains to speak of and took the Gas-X as soon as I got home. Everytime you get up to go to the bathroom take a lap around the halls.

Congrats to you too. I was banded one week ago on 10/3. At the beginning I felt a lot of back pain too but it diminished over the last couple of days. I am feeling pretty good now, so hang in there:)

Hi All,

I was banded on 10-8 and everything went well. I did very well on my pre-liquid diet. The doc said my liver had sharank alot, so he was very happy about that. I still have a little gas, but it is not as bad as I thought it would be, but I was up and walking a few hours after my surgery. Well ok, I was walking back and forth to the bathroom. They were keeping me very well hydrated which made me have to pee every couple of hours. I even got up and did a couple of errands today. My port site is very sore, but once they took the staples out of the other places, I felt much better. My doc also told me that I do not have to wait 6 weeks for a fill like they originally said, I will have my first fill in 4 weeks. WOW. I'm not hungry too much, so I'm just eating my Jello and drinking diluted juice (half juice, half water). Yum! I'm only taking my pain meds about every 6 hours or so. So I'm doing alot better than I thought I was gonna do. I must say, I'm happy I did it. Wish I would have done this sooner.

I must still be disoriented or something, I thought I just posted my "post surgery" story here, but apparently I didn't. Maybe it's in the TENacousTENS thread. Oh well, it's definitely in the new thread someone made for me (which touched my heart) entitled "Holly's band day". The postop stories are a little scary - everyone's experience is so different, but the surgery itself is a breeze. The recovery is a bit of a challenge. But it will be over soon enough. Hi Carrot! Anyway go read my post under "Holly's Band Day" for my surgery story. ((Hugs))

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
