Having 2nd thoughts!

Recommended Posts

I'm going through the steps needed for my insurance to be approved for Gastric Bypass, however; I am not having 2nd thoughts about having the surgery. I need to know if this is normal??

I am worried about how much my life is going to change, how much my body is going to change. I have been overweight since I was a child, about 3rd grade, so I have no idea what it's like to be skinny. I worry about how my husband will react/feel about my new body. Will he still love me/be attracted to me?

Can anyone tell me if these worries and 2nd thoughts are normal prior to surgery?

It is rare to find someone who "regrets" weight loss - regardless of their circumstances. If you have always been overweight I understand your fear of the unknown. However, I think you will find happiness in the new you for many reasons: You will be healthier and feel lighter and have more energy. Your clothes will fit/look better. You will feel good about finally doing something for YOU. Your husband married you because he loves YOU not just your body (or at least I hope that is true) so he will be attracted to the person you become regardless of the changes in your body. It will be an adjustment - I don't know how much you have to lose - but I hope you and him will talk as you change and that he is supporitive of your decision. To answer your question these are totally normal feelings, yes. Good luck and stay positive. Your life is about to change for the better!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
