Familiar with Dr. Singh From St. Agnes

Recommended Posts

I have never posted on any forum ever so I apologize in advance for any mis-steps.

I have received insurance approval, and I am waiting for my pysch eval as it is required from the doctor's office. After that I can get my surgery scheduled.

I have attended several of the informational meetings and support groups at St. Agnes Hospital, and a lot of people really like Dr. Singh but I am not feeling really confident.

Has anyone out there used Dr. Singh and can provide me with some insight?

Hello MollyBrown, I had my surgery with Dr. Singh in January. I love him. He is a great doctor. I've never had any problems getting fills when I needed them or had any problems getting appointments. Any time I have had a fill and he always tells me if I don't feel any restriction come back in two weeks. Good luck and welcome to LBT..

Dear TooSlow,

Is your name because losing the weight has gone slowly for you?

Could you tell me what your experience has been like? Do you have any problem eating any foods? Are you following the plan strictly? Did you do liquids two weeks before hand? OMG I am full of questions.... Do you attend the support groups?

Sorry... I have been reading this forum pretty consistently but you are about my age and you are local with the same doctor so I am just curious.

Sincerely,

MollyBrown

Hello Mollybrown,

Yes That Is Why I Picked That Name Because In The Beginning I Felt I Was Losing Slowly. But I've Now Had 4 Fills And Have Great Restriction.. And Am Not Losing About 1-2 Pounds A Week. No I Dont Follow The Plan Exactly Like I Should. I Didnt Have To Do The liquid Diet First. I Am A Sweets Eater So I Have A Hard Time Not Eating Sweets And Because They Go Down So Much Easier Than Real food. I Can Preety Much Eat Anything I Want With Lots, and Lots Of Chewing. I Have Trouble Eating Pork And Beef Unless It Is Ground Up. I Haven't Had A Hamburger In So Long. But I Dont Miss It. I've Only Been To One Support Group But Didnt Find It Very Helpful. They Didnt Discuss The Issues I Was Haveing. I Went To The Support Meeting Before My First Fill And Noone Talked About How Hungry They Were. So I Thought I Must Have Been The Only One Feeling Like That And I Found The Meetings Boring And More Talk About The Gastric Than The Lapband. Since My Last Fill In July I've Lost 22 Pounds. So I Feel Like I Big Loser Now. :car: (meaning Losing The Weight Good) . I Can Now Eat What I Want But Only Small Portions Cause I'm Not Hungry Which Is All We All Ever Wanted. To Not Feel Hungy. And I Have That Now. I Love My Band And Would Do It Again In A Heartbeat. Good Luck...and Welcome To Bandland...i'm In Onderland For The First Time In I Dont Know How Long. And Still Going Down. I Started At 232 Pounds And Now At 189 And Counting!

Yes, Ted. I did get banded back in November of 2007. The band has been marginally successful for me. Throughout the process (decision to get the band, pre-surgery diet, and then life after the band) I had lost 58 pounds. I still have 60 to 70 pounds to lose, and many of my peers on this site have lost most if not all of their weight, so I feel like a complete slacker....

I am still glad that I got the band because it keeps me mindful of what I am eating. I probably should have selected gastric bypass given my eating behaviors, but my husband did not like the mortality risk of bypass surgery. Also, I do love to cook, entertain, and drink wine occassionally, so the band allows a more "normal" life.

As the New Year rings in, me, my husband, and daughter have a renewed commitment so we will be incorporationg some major lifestyle changes now.

Did you want to know anything about Dr. Singh?

Thank you for responding Molly.

My wife had lapband with Dr. Singh and has lost 75 pounds but has hit the wall. She cannot lose anymore and had so many fills Water does not goes down for awhile.

She too did lapband because it seemed the safest route to go.

One of my friends did the by pass and has lost alot of weight and does not have the band restriction problems. In a way I wish my wife had gone this way.

Do you find it cumbersome to maintain a log book of your daily Protein intake in order to get a fill? Or do you find keeping the manadatory log a tool to help with your weight loss.

My wife like you enjoys cooking and quite honesty I do not know how you all do it at the holidays. I gained 5 pounds over the holidays and I could not survive without my diet coke.

Dr. Singh is quite a character and I enjoy office visits with my wife but visits are not the same with Cathy Carr not being there to check her Protein logbook. Hope you like Dr. Singh's humor like we do.

I am a member of the Y0-Yo Syndrome. I lose it and then gain it back. I lost about 50 pounds in the last 12 months by watching what I eat just like you all do.

Hope all goes well with your weight loss efforts. Stay positive and think of what will be. Not what was!

Love to hear more about your experiences with the good Dr. Singh.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
