Was your 2nd month slow weight loss?

Recommended Posts

My surgery weight was 371. I want to point out that I wasn't and still am not a hard-core dieter. I do not do low carb, no carb, and now that I can eat real food, I no longer drink Protein shakes or eat Protein Bars. I follow my NUT's program of eating 5 meals a day every 3 -4 hours - with 3oz of Protein eaten first. I work out with a personal trainer 2x a week and ride my recumbent bike 20 minutes another 2 - 3x a week. I've found that I don't lose weight if I don't get my fluids and Proteins in and also tend to lose more after the days I get my max protein of 90g.

Yeah this week is the first week on solids and I'm doing way better because I've switched to one Protein Bar a day and am able to get the rest from real food, and if I miss some I have gene pro to make it up. I started almost around where you are so that gives me even more hope!

Well, I had been loosing more prior to surgery. Granted my body needed to loose more then. I lost 75lbs so far, only 15 of that is post off though. I guess if I continue to loose that over 8-9 months I may hit my goal. Its frustrating seeing ppl who lost 30-45 pounds in a month, or 100 in 3 mo. I just feel as if I am failing, I guess I need to stop comparing my lost to others. Which is the hardest to do right now.

You weigh 200 pounds though, you aren't going to lose 30-40 pounds the first month after surgery.

Most of the people that do lose that much in the first month are men, or they had issues with getting fluids, Protein in.

I was 358 on day of surgery and I "only" lost 21 pounds my first month. And I didn't diet pre-op either, besides the surgery liquid diet and I "only" lost 7 pounds on it in 10 days.

I may have lost more the first month because I did not have to do the pre-op liquid diet. I only lost 14 pounds in the 6 months of supervised diet needed for my insurance. So my body wasn't in shock already from two weeks of living on liquids.

Sigh. I may not be the best motivator, but don't give up. I'm trying to stay motivated myself. I just keep saying that I didn't alter my body to give up.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
