Eating 2 months after Surgery!

Recommended Posts

How is everyone eating 2 months after Surgery? I am struggling and I have been since the surgery. I can barely eat anything at all. Certain liquids makes me nauseous. And certain foods make me throw up(but I feel like it's stuck in my chest before I throw up)

Any advice?

What am I doing wrong?

I'm 5 weeks post op and just this week I was able to get my Protein in and even ate 600 calories one day. It's tough and there is no way I can fit in 64oz of Water on top of it all. I do sip all day so I am hydrated. Just not 64 oz worth.

I measure my food before eating but depending on what it is I may or may not be able to finish it.

I feel bad if I take one bite too much. My tummy gets all gurgly and my chest hurts. I am still working on what the feeling is before that one bite too much.

I feel like I'm still learning everyday. If I add a new food I know very quickly if it disagrees with me. Usually nausea or just a sick feeling in my tummy.

I've read that 6 months out is a good time to evaluate what your new normal will be.

Take care

Lol don't feel bad at all. I am barely getting just over 500 calories in and I am just under 5 months out. That includes my Vitamins and supplements! I can't even get 30oz of Fluid in. (Which I have talked to my surgeon about!) I was barely even able to eat today. I go in for my 6 month follow up next month! Kind of nervous! Hope yours goes better!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
