Band taugh mom a lesson - First almost PB

Recommended Posts

Had my first fill on the 22nd. Felt restriction the first few days, then nothing. I wa able to eat whatever I wanted, almost, on Christmas. I gained three pounds over the holiday weekend. So of course Monday I was back on being a good girl and getting back on track. I was having a taco last night, the first bite kind of hurt when it went down. I took another one and it hurt as well so I tried to chew better. Third bite and WHAM,,,, I though I was having a heart attack. It hurt so bad. I sat there trying to catch my breath and then felt like I was going to be sick. I ran to the bathroom and spit "clear slime" but nothing else came up. I stood there until I finally caught my breath and felt like the food had gone down. I had liquids all day today until dinner, but took it easy. Still a little sore and now most foods I am eating hurt a little bit. I am finding that after the first few bites I start to fill full and if I could make myself stop there I could be fine. But my head makes me keep on eating. Seems like after that point I can eat and eat and eat if I want to and as long as I do it slow. How do you all make yourself stop eating?? This is the HARDEST thing for me.

Not sure if what I explained above is a PB, but sure hurt like hell.

Mom, please be careful with continuing eating too much. This can lead to serious problems with your band and your pouch. There's a lot of headwork to do. (I'm still working on it.) Have you tried to eat calmly and slowly for 20 minutes? Stop after then, get up and away from the table. Try finding some nonfood related hobbies. And I found watching t.v. bad because there are always food commercials on. LOL

I am doing much better since this. I think that it was just what I needed to remind me what and had done and why I did it. I had a 1/4 cup of cottage cheese for lunch yesterday and half a cup of Soup. Today so far I have had a small egg omelet with vegetables in it and am having some chicken noodle soup for lunch. I am not feeling well so that is helping me out..

A lot of us still struggle. Your stomach says stop, but your head says go go go. I'm in the same boat. Yes, that was a PB you had. I slipped back into old habits over the holidays, so I'll have to start making my famous phone calls every night. I have a list of phone numbers of my banded friends, and I call one each night to prevent myself from eating. It's an expensive long-distance bill, but better than eating.

After vomiting a few meals (a few too many, to tell you the truth), I finally started to know the feeling of being too full. For those of us who are used to eating until we just simply can't eat any more (and then eating some more anyway!), it's a very different kind of "full" feeling. Here's the best comparison that I can come up with to try to explain it: Before being banded, feeling "full" meant feeling like I was going to pop. Now, feeling full means that my stomach feels a bit "heavier". It's tough to explain, but you'll figure it out. The best suggestion that I can give is to really pay attention to how your body is feeling when you eat. You'll begin to know the feeling the preceeds the "I'm gonna vomit because I've eaten too much" feeling, and you'll know that's when to stop. Hang in there!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
