C'mon doc/nut....No nailpolish!

Recommended Posts

I'm rereading my preoperative instructions....for the 100th time. It reads:

Do not wear any make up, nail polish, lotions, or jewelry to the hospital.

.....Did any of you ladies that wear polish actually take your polish off?

I get everything else ....no problem, if I have too...just asking!

Yes. In order for them to accurately get your pulse ox rate during surgery. They said that color can limit its accuracy.

I was told I didn't have to remove any polish as it doesn't matter... I did ask as I thought they would freak out if I had nail polish on..
but I'd says every hospital is different

Friend had her surgery cancelled when she was lying on the table as she refused to take off her false nails.

Wow, she refused??? Crazy, if their fake she couldve just put them back on as soon as she got out of the hospital, now she could wait months for another surgery date. After jumping through all the hoops we have to, Id tell them cut them right off now.

Small price to pay if that's what they want. I personally could care less since my overall health is more important than nail polish.

Yeah she point blank refused and now has to wait 18 months before they will touch her again.

That is so sad. Taking off fake nails is a small proce to pay for surgery. Wow, she couldve been at her goal weight in 18 months and comorbity free, so sad for her :(
I dont think anything could hold me back from my date now. These past 6 months seemed to drag, I would lose my mind waiting 18 more momths.
Every surgeon and hospital is different though and whatever they say goes.

If the post op instructions state so, it's better to follow instructions. Polish may interfere with pulse oximetry, especially brown or red nailpolish.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
