Just wondered if anyone has had the experience that they had a gallstone prior to surgery? Since I am in my 6 month waiting period for surgery i have been found to have a large stone. I am wondering if most surgeons would do two separate surgeries or remove the gall bladder at the same time as Sleeve? Thank you for any input.

It's practice here to remove gallbladder at same time if it's flared up. I had mine removed 6 years ago and the pain is worse than childbirth. My surgeon is removing my appendix instead.

Just spoke with my surgeon about this on a Monday. I do have gallstones. He said that it will likely get worse after sleeve. And it hurts like a bitch now when it flares up. He will be doing my sleeve AND gallbladder in one surgery.

I had sleeve and gallbladder removed at the same time. No issues at all. So glad I did.

I lost over 100lbs about ten months back around 2003. I had pain worse than childbirth in the middle of my chest and through my back. Was misdiagnosed for well over a year. One doctor told me to my face that I was making it up. The hospital said I was looking for drugs!! (I don't even drink or take aspirin). Not one of them ran a routine blood test. I finally went home to NH and with a simple test, they diagnosed me with gallstones. Turned out I had an infection and there were over 60 stones! My childhood softball coach removed my gallbladder. :)

Good luck! I hope it works out well for you.

Thanks for this!! I was wondering if the two procedures could be done together. I got approved a few weeks ago and am scheduled for May 23rd. I've suffered from GERD for 10+ years, off and on but the last 2+ years the pain made me question if it was something else.. and after explaining the symptoms to my nutritionist she suggested it might be my gallbladder. The pain has just progressed and I've even had clay like stool. I'm having an endoscopy on Thursday and will request my gallbladder be checked as well... hopefully it can all be cleared before May 23rd!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
