Not telling Husband or Anyone

Recommended Posts

I don't think it's the greatest idea but you have to do you. If you are compelled to have the surg on your own, then go for it. But be prepared for the backlash when you return to your hubby. It may get ugly. Have you thought of telling him just before you leave. At least then he won't feel so betrayed and you won't have to listen to his negativity.

I'm no relationship doctor but I certainly would not go through a relationship where I couldn't tell my spouse something like this. However, that's just me.

Regardless of that, I hope you do what's best for your health and understand the surgery is not a magic fix, that psychological and nutritional issues (if any) should be resolved before you get the surgery done. You will most certainly benefit from having help post-op for several weeks, especially if you have kids and they're young. Your energy will likely go kaput.

If you have any family you can lean on it would be a good time to possibly dial them up too.

I am sorry you are in such a bad spot.
That doesn't sound like a healthy marriage, in my humble opinion.
Have you two tried marriage counseling?
That would be a start.
Having major surgery without telling your spouse is also not a good idea.
I think you need to work on your marriage before you run off to get surgery.
If he doesn't support you, or love you enough to support you then that is a whole separate issue.
Sorry to hear you are having these issues.
My wife and I are trying to get sleeved together.

I did tell my husband. He is my greatest cheerleader, which surprises me. However, I did threaten his life if he told anyone

Really? Do you think people will notice? I suppose It depends on your starting weight if people will question it.

Well you don't have to worry if people will notice I battled the same thing but I'm at the point where it's my life and I want to be healthy and I'm 18 now so there for I don't have to answer to no one(except my parents and they are by my side the whole way ) if you need to tell people how you lost weight just say you portion out your food technically that's what you are doing the surgery is doing it for you though .

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
