Does everyone get an EKG before surgery? My sleeve is 3/21 and it hasn't even been mentioned. Does the nurse decide if you need one?

As far as I know it's required by any program or surgeon as well as other tests chest X-rays blood work egd pregnancy test etc and sometimes a sleep study and if u have any other health issues there may be more they need to know if you have any issues so they can prevent problems during surgery and recovery I have afib which I had for years before the surgery it wasn't an issue

Do you have any pre-admission testing scheduled? I would imagine the anesthesiologist will need to be comfortable with your EKG results.

Hi! I am going this Monday for a barium swallow. Met with the anesthesiologist last Wednesday and he said my blood work from October was perfect so there was no need to repeat. No other tests have been mentioned. Now I'm getting concerned...I guess when I go for barium swallow I'll do some investigating!

My surgeon required a clearance from my primary care doctor. My Primary care doctor did a pre-surgery check up which included an EKG.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
