Phentermine after surgery

Recommended Posts

Did anyone here take Phentermine or other appetite suppressant post-op? I was taking Phentermine pre-op and it gave me a jolt of energy. I sometimes feel so lethargic and wish I can take even half a pill. Anyone have any experience? Thanks in advance!

coffee, phentermine is rough on the body and can/will become addictive. Also don't think you would need an appetite suppressant, weight loss pills initially are a tool (not very good ones IMO) and his surgery is a tool but better. Work your tool and appetite suppressants shouldn't be needed.

You shouldn't have physical hunger after surgery so pills shouldn't be needed. Any doctor that is advising you use them post-op, I would be very cautious of.

I'm physically hungry. I have been starving since day 2. HUNGRY. Surgery date: 3/10.

It is basically impossible for you to feel physically hungry because the nerves have been cut. So you either have acid issues or you have head hunger.

Either way consult your team.

You're going through one of the hardest times post op. The head hunger is horrible, and all you want to do is CHEW something!

Yes, I said head hunger. Just because your stomach is making noises doesn't mean you're physically hungry. All of our stomachs sounded like a pack of angry wolves post op. It's all the excess acid being made with no where to go now. Talk to your surgeon about upping your dose of your PPI.

Hang in there. Honestly, once your start to eat "normal" food again, the feeling goes away. It is REALLY hard until that time comes! This is the time to learn how to delay gratification and flex your will power muscles.

Actually, no nerves are intentionally cut with the purpose of removing hunger. The lack of hunger that some (not all) patients experience is due to less ghrelin (a hormone) typically produced in the part of the stomach that is removed. I am only 1.5 weeks out from surgery, but I have definitely experienced real, physical hunger.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
