OErica 2 Posted March 11, 2017 Hello,I just had VSG yesterday... I am able to sleep on my side and such, but is that okay? Has anyone had any trouble sleeping? Should I be sitting up sleeping? I guess I am trying to find the right answer. Somehow I feel like I'm shifting my insides around, but that could just be me being paranoid. I have been feeling a lot better today, but can't sleep longer than 45 min at a time. I've also noticed shortness of breath. I think it could just be the excess gas. Any one have any opinions on this?
HB76356 122 Posted March 11, 2017 My Dr. had me doing breathing exercises. Just basically taking 10 real deep breaths and exhaling fully every hour.If you feel comfortable sleeping on your side have at it. It took me a few weeks, but I'm glad to be able to do it again. Pam_2-06-2017 375 Posted March 11, 2017 Go for it as long as your comfortable. It was a couple of weeks before I could sleep anyhow but on my back. I'm a tummy sleeper so it was torture. Congrats on your surgery! Good Luck! 1 SlimStacey reacted to this
strengthin#ers 195 Posted March 11, 2017 It was totally IMPOSSIBLE for me to sleep on my side after surgery. Lord knows I tried to turn as much as I could but it was not happening. Few weeks is accurate. Way to go if you can comfortably.
clc9 644 Posted March 11, 2017 I could sleep on my side with the binder on. Heaven. As far as the shortness of breath, did you bring home your incentive spirometer? That thing with the ball where you inhale and try to get it up to a certain level? It's important for your lungs and will get your capacity back. The deep breathing even though it hurts is great too. Beachbum60 6 Posted March 12, 2017 Just had my VSG on Thursday and finally decided to sleep on my side last night with zero sleep problems. The paranoid I had when I first went to bed.
TrishFB 2 Posted March 12, 2017 The nurse at my clinic helped me get onto my side the night of my surgery - kind of wedged a pillow behind me to keep me there. Was a few days before I could roll on my own and stay comfortably, but given my experience, no risk in sleeping on your side from day 1 if you can pull it off!
