Is depression normal?

Recommended Posts

I had a gastric sleeve on January 23rd. I have been pretty much stalled at 30lbs for 3 weeks now. I was praying my appitite was going to decrease with the removal of most of my stomach. But my appitite hasn't changed and where if I ate too much for the first month i would vomit. That seems to have stopped. I do get uncomfortable but not enough anymore. My mood swings are driving me nuts. But they seem to be on a downward slide in general. I haven't found the resolve to take my two dogs walking. I'm not out of breath all the time like i was pre surgery, so i don’t have a legitimate excuse. Friends are telling me to be more patient. I have cut out all the bad choices i used to eat. And i can't eat half of what I used to be able to. But the loss has stalled and i feel blue way too often. Is this just an Alex thing or has anyone else felt this way? And how did you turn things around if you have?? (I live alone and don't have very many local friends. No family either)

I was sleeved Jan 12th. Weight loss slowed down for me - and it has made me sad and frustrated at times. You are not alone! I've read a lot about how stalls occur - and we just have to push through them. Hang in there!!!

Thank you for responding. :) I should share a bit more. I'm short. 5'6. I'm actually glad to be this tall. My mother was 4'11. But not so cool when you weigh 315. I suppose that I stopped caring before I was even close to that. My A1C was 10.7. I have no idea how long I've been diabetic. I am stuck at 280 right now but, after being on Invokana 300mg for almost two months now, my test on Wednesday had it down to 6.7 Not everything is doom and gloom. But it's so frustrating being hungry all the time. I'm doing pretty well at staying away from really fatty foods. I tried eating a few ribs 2 weeks after surgery but they made me so sick with heartburn. I deal with sweet tooth with canned lite or no sugar added cans of fruit. Other than 3 egg cheese omelettes occasssionaly, my fat intake is low. I just don't understand the long stall. I wish that I felt more motivated to walk. I'm should also mention that in real life I'm a major introvert. That makes things all the harder when it comes to exercising.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
