Tablet/Laptop (with "special" SD card), cell phone, charger, naughty mags, guns & ammo magazines, butt pillow, MAGA hat, American flag, bar of snickers thats just out of reach, etc.

I'm cruel and unusual.

I took a bunch of stuff to the hospital and ended up not using any of it. I had my iPad (never pulled it out), books, magazines (never read them).

The only thing that ended up mattering was my phone charger and earbuds. And that's only because the guy in the next bed was snoring and I put them in to get some sleep.

I'd say comfortable change of clothes, phone and charger and you'll be squared away.

Chapstick!!! It's so dry in most hospitals and your mouth will already be having some "dry issues" due to surgery tube etc. I took a change of comfy clothes to put on after catheter was out as I didn't really want to parade around in my gown.

I brought my own blanket, because I hate hospital blankets and I didn't want to be cold, but my hospital room was SO warm, it was almost unbearable. Otherwise, I definitely would have used it.

I brought my favorite pair of sweatpants, and put them on under my hospital gown. It made me feel so much more comfortable while walking through the hallways! I also brought a pair of clean underwear to wear home.

I brought a toiletry bag with the following: chapstick, toothbrush, tooth paste, and hair brush. I used all of these items. My mouth was so dry post-op and the chapstick helped. I was happy to be able to brush my teeth and hair before going home.

Of course, don't forget your phone charger! See if you can track down of of those 10 or 15 foot cords in case the outlet is super far away from your bed.

Good luck! Everything is going to be fine! :)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
